Biocrusts for potential bioremediation of acidified soils from metal mining

Date

March 2023 - Present

Research

Using biological soil crusts, which can influence soil pH, water availability, and soil microbes and nutrients to potentially change pH and nutrient availability of sulfur-acidified soils to remediate areas affected by the sulfuric acid in mine tailings and acid mine drainage during the mining of copper, gold, silver, lead, zinc, and coal; particularly on and near native reservations.
